The covers are off the greens!
I’ve never been much of a “make lemonade out of life’s lemons” guy. More likely to grab a lime and fix a drink. Might suggest that the Irish in general lean this way. UK rooted also tend to like their golf and I’m very pleased to announce today - The Covers are Off the Greens!
It’s been a
long, tough winter in Boston. Many other places too. I found these past few
months challenging in a number of ways and have tried to be conscious of how
well I’ve been meeting that challenge. Wife had some feedback on that too.
I can cover
my greens in layers at times. The winter winds can blow any year from the health,
professional, financial, and other corners. Today we’ve also got the soul-crushing,
bone-rattling political (and thus societal) blizzard of 2025. And it’s forecast
to dump on us through 2028. Oops, there I go again.
But as of today,
we’ve also got the covers off the greens! Witnessed it with my own eyes walking
to the train this morning. Immediately stood up straighter, walked faster, and
wanted to share the news. I’m sure I smiled.
I’d give
myself so-so marks recently for finding perspective on daily challenges and
being grateful for life’s simple and massive blessings. Had some A- moments and
some C- moments. Shying from the tests less. Had three different men in my life
encounter serious health issues recently, and I’m ashamed that the jolts of
empathy and appreciation don’t have a permanent effect. Why on earth do lousy
drivers still make my blood boil? Why do inconsiderate gestures still land so personally
with me at times, when I know their simple causes have nothing to do with me?
These men
have families, careers, friends, passions now more treasured than ever. I treasure
mine more too. And I know I should even more.
I couldn’t
will the covers off the greens any earlier and I can’t will Donald Trump to
burst into flames. But they are off now and I’m energized. I’m grateful and I’m
blessed we’ve reached today. Fore!
